This summer, the AYEC team competed in the Georgia Tech Global Change Program's Carbon Reduction Challenge. Between May and August, the team worked with Agnes Scott College to do a retrofit and weatherization of a college-owned home that is rented out to faculty and staff members. Then, the AYEC team members calculated the estimated CO2 and $$$ savings from their project, which amounted to almost 2000 lbs. of carbon and an $80 reduction in energy bills for the resident each year. Other benefits of the project included residential health benefits and engaging young women and people of color in energy efficiency work.
Special thanks to the AYEC team members who worked on this competition: Bethany Velarde, Brittany Judson, Gwyn Rush, Lauren Church, Madeleine Hardt, Ilsse Ortega, & Emily Smith.
