MAYE Corps team members Unwanna Etuk, Brittany Judson, Marisol Mendez, Lisset Rojo Ramirez, Gwyn Rush, Jo Studdard, and Kathryn Turnbull completed the Climate Reality Global Training this month! Lisset, one of our PR Developers, said the following: “The Climate Reality Training has taught me how to effectively present climate-related facts and make sure that individual stories are being shared and heard. I'm excited to have made virtual connections not only in my community but also around the world and be able to implement what I've learned so far at MAYE Corps!”

Our members were trained in climate science, communications, and community organizing to better tell the story of climate change and inspire communities to act. In addition, they were able to hear amazing speakers from over the world and network with other youth leaders. “Participating in the first-ever global Climate Reality training has been an uplifting experience that has emboldened me on my climate activism journey,” said Jo Studdard, another one of our PR Developers. “During this training, I have obtained a deeper understanding of my personal climate story, which I know will be an essential tool in my advocacy for our planet’s future. Even though the pandemic has in-person gatherings on pause, being able to commune with local and international climate leaders in this online space allowed me to see the sheer vastness of this movement we are taking part in.”

The leadership training became virtual this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There were over 10,000 people all over the world registered for the program. Members were able to attend various workshops ranging from digital media, coalition building, digital lobbying and much more. Unwanna Etuk, an Education and Outreach Developer, had this to say about the training: “The Climate Reality Global Training was one of the highlights of my summer. I loved the wide array of content and how the different tracks could benefit both veteran and new climate activists. Moreover, I appreciated how the training acknowledged that we're all just regular people, who experience things like nervousness, but that we have the strength and tools to change the world despite that.”

Due to the high interest in the training, the Climate Reality Project will be hosting a second virtual training from August 28th to September 3. If interested, register here.
